Senior Football League

O Loughlin Gaels V Mullinavat

Report by John Dunphy P.R.O.

Mullinavat senior footballers opened their league campaign for 2014 with a good 2 point victory over O Loughlin Gaels in St. Johns Park on Saturday last. It was a difficult day for football due to the strong wind which favoured Mullinavat in the first half. They took advantage of the elements and took a 1-4 to 0-3 lead into the break with John Walsh contributing 1-1 and Stephen Duggan scoring 3 points, two coming from frees.

The second half required disciplined defending and commitment by all of the Mullinavat players and each player stuck manfully to his task restricting O Loughlin’s to 0-4 and preventing them from scoring two goal chances which they had created. Mullinavat’s scoring chances were limited against the breeze and Stephen Duggan added 2 points, one coming from a free. This was good enough for victory on this occasion and manager Paddy Raftice and his backroom team will be looking forward to improving performances over the coming weeks.
