Mullinavat 1-14 Thomastown 0-15
Mullinavat under 21 team just about edged past Thomastown in an exciting semi final played in Ballyhale on Saturday. Mullinavat trailed their opponents for much of this game but in a powerful finish they came from behind to be in front when it mattered. Mullinavat were playing well but were not converting their chances. After ten minutes Thomastown led by 0-3 to 0-1 with Ger Malone our only scorer. Ger was our outstanding player on ta day where many of our main players struggled to gain any foothold . Mark Mansfield added three points before the break and Ger Malone added one to leave Mullinavat trailing by 0-11 to 0-6. The wide tally showed Mullinavat had shot eight wides while Thomastown had shot just one. Just before the break Mullinavat looked  sure to score when Liam Fennelly found himself in front of goal but his shot was well saved by the Thomastown keeper.
Mullinavat were determined to reduce the deficit and Mark Mansfield converted a free to start the comeback. Darren Waters added another and Ger Malone really showed great detemination to land three lovely points to leave just wo points between the sides as the match entered the final quarter. Adam Mansfield added some pace and urgency to the 'Vat forward line and his point left just one point in it.Simon Aylward found John Walsh with a good pass and john levelled the game with a fine point. Back came Thomastown again and three quick points saw them edge in front again. The pressure was now intense as Mullinavat went in search of scores. With two minutes remaining Mullinavat were now turning the screw on the Thomastown defence and John Walsh put us in front when he whipped on a ground ball and the net shook. John added a point to edge Mullinavat two points ahead. Thomastown had no more to offer and when the final whistle sounded it was Mullinavat who advance to the southern final where they will face Glenmore. Best for Mullinavat were Mikey Jones and Brian Phelan in defence. Mark Mansfield and Darren Kenneally worked tirelessly in midfield while Ger Malone was the best player on the park.
