Great win for Intermediates

This weekend saw a flurry of activity on the club scene and three of our teams saw championship action. First up were the  minors on Friday night who travelled to St. John's Park to take on Lisdowney. After a poor start the minors gradually began to get a foothold in the game and by half time they led by 0-11 to 0-8. Things were looking reasonably good but the second half proved to be a disaster as Lisdowney completely overwhelmed our side and ran out comfortable winners 3-18 to 0-12. Saturday morning saw our under 14 side run out easy winners over Dicksboro B on a scoreline of 3-13 to 1-8. On then to Bennetsbridge on a sunny Saturday evening where our Intermediate side were up against Conahy Shamrocks. Our first half performance was riddled with errors and poor shooting and at half time we trailed by 1-8 to 0-6. The second half was a totally different story as a more determined Mullinavat side began to chase down that lead. Three points from Michael Murphy (2) and Mark Mansfield (1) saw the lead down to two points. By the 20th minute we were level thanks to points from Paddy Raftice (2) and Ger Malone (1). Michael Murphy pointed to put us in front for the first time since the opening minutes but the decisive score came from sub Joey Gahan who was put through with an excellent pass from sub Liam Fennelly. Mullinavat were now firmly in the driving seat and points from a Michael Murphy free and an excellent point from Paddy Raftice saw us run out deserving winners 1-15 to 1-10. This was a fine performance from our Intermediate side and we now await the draw on Monday night to see who our opponents are in the quarterfinals which are due to be played next weekend.
Mullinavat: James Culleton, Brian Phelan, Thomas Aylward (0-1 Free), Seamus Farrell, Padraig Gahan, Walter Burke, Liam Murphy, Dinny Butler (0-1), Willie O' Dwyer (0-1), Ger Malone (0-3), Michael Murphy (0-4), Mark Mansfield (0-1), Pat Mulhearn, Andrew McGovern, Paddy Raftice (0-4).
Subs: Joey Gahan (1-0), Liam Fennelly, Simon Aylward
