Good start by Under 21 team

They say a rising tide lifts all boats and the victory of  the minor team in last week's  county final has certainly given the club a shot of adrenalin. Mullinavat under 21 team carried on the winning sequence in their opening game in the under 21 championship against a disappointing John Lockes side in Hugginstown today. Leading from start to finish they were never in trouble at any stage and ran out comfortable winners. Mullinavat led by 0-5 to 0-3 at the end of the first quarter and were looking the more dangerous side with Ger Malone and Joey Gahan causing plenty of problems for the Callan defence. Still our dominance was not reflected on the scoreboard. The goals eventually came in the second quarter though and the first was a beauty. Joey Gahan took on the Callan defence and laid the ball off to Ger Malone who  finished well to the net.  The second was a scrappier affair but no matter, they all count and it was Brian Power who got his boot to the ball to give us a good lead as half time approached.
Half time score Mullinavat 2-6 John Lockes 0-4.
Mullinavat got the first two scores of the second half through points from Ian Duggan (free) and Ger Malone to edge us further ahead. John Lockes tried some positional switches but the 'Vat defence was coping well with the challenge. Both sides traded points for the next fifteen minutes and Mullinavat never looked in danger from then on. This was a good workmanlike performance from Mullinavat and they now await the winners of Thomastown v Rower Inistioge in the Southern semi final.
